Puebla.
1973.- At dawn on July 4, 1973, the army transferred several families of paratroopers from the Xonaca ranch to here.
How did we know about this colony?
The Teresian nuns with their students from the América school went to Granjas del Sur to teach catechism. A woman told them that a new colony had been formed, which consisted of more than 800 families, with around 2,000 children.
The families were in inhuman conditions, the colony was called "Cartoland", because they lived in little houses covered in cardboard, sticks and plastic, they managed to condition their "houses" as best they could. They did not have water or electricity. Public services had not yet arrived.
Seeing the serious need and extreme poverty in which the families lived, the Teresians decided to look for a house to accompany the people of this community. The Archbishop the Hon. Octaviano Márquez was the one who authorized said foundation. Under the protection of San José Obrero, since he is the patron saint of the Mayorazgo parish.
So on August 14, 1974, the first Eucharist was celebrated, preceded by Parish Priest Isauro Corona.
The founding Teresians were: Julia Garrido, Adelaida Morales, Dolores Virgel, Lourdes Verduzco.
On the 18th the father presented them to the community, all the inhabitants received them with enthusiasm and hope.
On August 22, the house was blessed, they began to seek help, donations for the construction of the classrooms, dispensary and school field,
Authorization is requested from the SEP to open a remote high school. They started with the first degree of remote high school, the dispensary. At the same time, the doors were opened for the adult literacy program, and the knitting workshops, first aid and typing courses.
On August 30, 1975, the first 11 people finished their first aid course. It was a wonderful achievement for the entire community.
We opened the dispensary, staffed by a doctor, a nurse from the congregation of the Incarnate Word and a Teresian sister. Afterwards he was treated by Dr. Yolanda and Virginia Benítez.
The “School of the Cross” was also opened (The founders that we remember were Mr. Abel, Jacobo, Arturo and other good benefactors).
In October of the same year, deacon Arturo de Florencio joined, supporting the Teresianas in catechism and training of catechists. And on March 4, 1975, already ordained, he celebrated his first mass in the colony.
In September 1975, Deacon Miguel came to continue supporting the Teresians. Since there were many children, several catechism spaces had been opened in the colony.
On September 17, 1975, Mr. Octaviano Márquez was asked to provide a priest for the colony; on the 24th of the same month, the archbishop died, appointed as auxiliary bishop to Ms. Rosendo Huesca.
The pastoral work was Family Catechesis, Children's Catechesis, training of catechists, Friends of Jesus, the choir...
We also began to serve the surrounding neighborhoods, such as San Ramón, Tres cerritos, Las Carmelitas, San Bartolo among others, supporting Father Raúl Barojas.
On April 11, 1977, Father Raúl Barojas arrived as parish priest of the community, but without a parish. The words he addressed to the community were: “More than building a material temple, I have come to build hearts that love.”
And so the Teresian sisters began to carry out bazaars, collections and benefactors, we sent letters to an organization of German Catholics called ADVENIAT.
In 1978 the first stone of our parish was laid, which was and is to this day, a wonderful achievement, it was built with the cooperation of everyone, parents of the América school, Mr. Enrique Benítez and his sisters, Mrs. Angels and us Teresianas, was established taking Our Lady of the Refuge as mother and protector.
On October 19, 1980, at 8:30 am, the First Mass was celebrated, preceded by His Excellency Mr. Rosendo Huesca.
In 1992, secondary schools opened in the area, thus reducing the attendance of students at the remote high school, so other alternatives were opened.
In 1994, secondary education began in the afternoon in an open modality incorporated into the National Institute of Adult Education (INEA). Other workshops are given
In 1995, the Open Night High School began, attended by students from the Ibero University, as Social Service providers and two more paid teachers. In June 1995, the Telesecundaria closed. The open secondary school continues.
In September 1995, the Community Development Baccalaureate was opened with 24 students, paying symbolic tuition and being attended by 5 paid advisors.
In 2001 we opened the non-school General Baccalaureate, operating to this day under the same name Centro de Desarrollo Integral, Enrique de Ossó (CEDESI).
We provide computer classes, Job Training, with official recognition.
We teach the program “ESPERE” . It talks about topics to forgiveness and reconciliation workshops, open to everyone, Family Constellations workshops, and Biodanza. There is catechism on Tuesdays and a sister supports the parish with training topics for catechists, parents and godparents in Sacraments.
As of today, we have a direct beneficiary population of 126 girls, boys, young people and adults who, in the different windows of learning and spiritual cultivation, obtain the tools to transform their lives, that of their families and community.
