Ecatepec, State of Mexico.
In 1986, the priest Mario Mendoza Ochoa was assigned as parish priest of the El Cuadrito neighborhood at that time, a place located on the outskirts, without public services such as electricity, paving, drainage, etc. When he arrived he realized that there was nothing, only the land full of garbage and bushes, there he began to celebrate his first masses, a few days later he invited all the faithful to fix the place together, in a few days it was clean and He began to hold small festivals and raffles to be able to build a small provisional chapel, which was made of cardboard. The community began to follow the priest and give him all their support.
The people of said community were very simple, with very few resources, they lived in small houses with superimposed partitions, people who had migrated from their lands of origin. The priest Mario decided with the support of his followers to start founding a small kindergarten for the children and girls from the community, since there were too many of them and he was very concerned that they would not attend any school to receive their education.
The priest's great dream was put into motion and the children's parents themselves began to build the little school. The priest managed to obtain some donations of materials and managed to have 2 simple classrooms, where 40 children per classroom were received.
The father continued looking for support and the Teresian nuns appeared, initially the mother Cecilia Guevara Sánchez arrived, accompanied by 3 laywomen. They showed great interest in supporting the community that needed it so much, they came once a week to work with the children.
In 1987 the school year “87-88” was formally opened and the school was named “Fray Pedro de Gante” and was left in the hands of Sister Cecilia Guevara and Gertrudis Benito. They were accompanied by ladies from the Florida school (also from the Teresiana Foundation) and people close to the priest Mario Mendoza.
The entire community continued to work hard, contributing with unpaid labor, the priest and the nuns continued to seek donations, thus they managed to continue building more classrooms until they reached kindergarten and primary school, they quickly obtained good enrollment, and tuition for parents was practically symbolic.
In 1990, for personal reasons, the priest Mario retired from the community, and the school was left completely in charge of the Teresianas (Company of Saint Teresa of Jesus), the new priest Juan Zavala arrived, who integrated well into its activities. of the parish to continue serving masses and other activities at the school.
In 1991 they achieved incorporation before the Ministry of Public Education (official validity), it was a great blessing since that year the first generation of primary school graduates. The school was advancing in its infrastructure and in the different services they offered to students such as breakfast, education in the faith, the parents all the time carried out tasks (unpaid work) for the cleaning and maintenance of the school.
In 1999, The Fray Pedro de Gante school changed its name to Centro Educativo Teresiano A.C, officially being one of the works in charge of the Company of Santa Teresa de Jesús. The school remained in those facilities in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, on the land property of the parish of San José Obrero for 30 years, until in 2014, the construction of a new building began, also in Ecatepec, but much larger to be able to accommodate more families eager to provide their children with a academic, spiritual and value-based education, families in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability.
In August 2016, the entire school community moved to the newly built school, with beautiful facilities.
The school welcomes from 360 to 390 students each year, this year we are closing with 370 boys and girls from both preschool and primary levels.
All students at the school are on scholarships, since the cost of tuition is low, we are the private school, with the lowest tuition cost in the area, we offer a cutting-edge and quality service, as well as a first-class infrastructure thanks to sister schools (not subsidized) and the recurring donors and donations that come to us from Civil Society for the maintenance of the work and the permanent scholarships.
80% of our beneficiary population is made up of preschool and primary school girls and boys who live and are under the care of grandparents, uncles, a relative, single mothers who have to work or single fathers who left their children. and they see the need to leave their children in the care of a relative, we also have very young mothers who had their child from 16 to 19 years old, situations that put families and children in fragility and For girls, the parents' educational level ranges between middle school and truncated high school.
The school is recognized in the town as a safe space, they feel it is a place where universal values, academic performance, the work of spirituality and good treatment for the community in general are strengthened.
We are a school that is becoming populated with the children of former students, with relatives of our students, neighbors and friends since the experience that each family is having recommends us among their acquaintances and they join the great Teresian family of Ecatepec.
